Office 2019 released for Windows 10 (ISO & installation keys)

Microsoft today unveiled the new version of the Office 2019 suite. The new Office 2019 will only be released for Windows 10 (and the latest LTSC of Windows Server) and Apple's MacOSX devices (in the latest version according to Microsoft).

Commercial license customers can access Office 2019 starting today, while everyone else (home users and businesses) will be able to purchase and install the new version of Office in the coming weeks.

Office 2019 is the new internal version of the Office suite that includes updates to Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio, Access, and Project (the latter four are only available for Windows).

In Office Server products, Exchange Server 2019, Skype for Business Server 2019, SharePoint Server 2019, and Project Server 2019 will be released in the coming weeks.

Changes

Here is a list of important changes in Office 2019 compared to the previous Office 2016:

Word 2019: Dark theme, learning tools, text-to-speech, improved ink support, accessibility improvements.
Excel 2019: Charts, 2D maps, timelines, new Excel features and connections, Excel improvements to PowerBI, PowerPivot, and PowerQuery.
PowerPoint 2019: Morph capability, zoom capabilities on presentation slides, import and manage icons, SVG and 3D models.
Outlook 2019: Office 365 Groups support (with Exchange Online account), focused inbox, updated contact cards, and @mentions.

Missing Office 365 features

The following features are supported by Office 365 but are not included in Office 2019:

Editor and researcher in Word.
Tap in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Designer in PowerPoint.
Ideas and data types in Excel.
Real-time collaboration in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and @mentions.
Office 365 message encryption.
ATP in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive for Business
Enterprise Office protection.
Sensitive Label support in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Shared computer license
Includes language packs
FastTrack options
Intune integration

What you need to know about Office 2019

1. There will be another version of Office

Microsoft revealed today that Office 2019 will not be the last version of Office. This means that the company will release another version of Office that will not be cloud-based.

2. There is no MSI installer

Microsoft first made the click-to-run installer available with Office 2013. Users and administrators can install Office 2013 and 2016 using the click-to-run installer or the MSI installer.

Office 2019 only supports click-to-run installations. One of the main issues that administrators and users will face is that the click-to-run installer installs all Office applications. So it will be a problem if you don't plan to use all of them.

As a solution to this issue, Microsoft recommends the Office Deployment Tool, which you can download from the company's website. It is a command-line tool for deploying click-to-run versions of Microsoft Office.

3. One-time payment, No subscriptions and no updates

Office 2019 is available with a one-time payment. In other words: no subscriptions. The downside is that Microsoft has decided to limit updates. The company states that Office 2019 will not receive new features after its release.

4. Support for older versions of Office continues

You can upgrade from an older supported version of Office to the new Office 2019. Office 2013 and 2016 are still supported.

5. Office 2019 does not require Internet access when used

Office 2019 will not require an active Internet connection when installed.

6. Office 2019 will be supported for seven years

Microsoft has revealed that Office 2019 will have five years of mainstream support and two years of extended support.

7. You won't be able to run Office 2019 on a computer that has Office 2016

Office 2016 and Office 2019 cannot run simultaneously on the same operating system.
