Android custom ROM; Android device users who run apps from the Google Play Store on devices that have not been certified by Google will start to notice messages like: “This device is not certified by Google.”
We are talking about Google Apps that are usually present on most Android devices. With the new modification from Google, the installation of these apps is still possible but they do not work properly on the affected devices.
A post on the XDA Developers forum states that the change was made on March 16 and that any build developed after that date is affected.
The change affects users running an Android custom ROM and any device that has not gone through Google’s certification process.
Of course, all users of such devices can manually register them to obtain the certification. For now, this process seems to be the only option for users of custom ROMS.
Some users, however, report that their uncertified device is not yet affected by the restriction.
Manually registering a device with a custom Android
The first thing you need to do is find the Android ID of your device. You should be aware that the Android ID can change with each new ROM installation or other changes you make to your device.
Use an app like Aida64 to find the Android ID. If you can't download the app from Google Play, try installing it from a third-party store or APK Mirror.
Once you've found the ID, open Google's dedicated page for manually registering your device.
You'll need to sign in to a Google account to complete the process. The system limits registrations to 100 devices per user.
