Over the weekend, it became known that some Windows 10 users were reporting suspicious pop-up notifications. It's not uncommon to receive notifications from Microsoft. But in this case, there seems to be something suspicious.
A user wrote on Reddit that he received two notifications, from the notifications tab in the bottom right corner of the desktop. The first notification said “Microsoft movies – this test notification”. After 5 minutes, the second notification appeared “Microsoft movies – thsi test notification”. The second notification has a typo. It says thsi instead of this.
Then, when the user opened the notification, they were taken to the Microsoft News app page. However, the page did not contain an article, as usual, but a message that read "error.".
These two elements are what make the notifications suspicious, as the typos and "error" messages could have been caused by hackers. However, nothing is certain at this time.
Other users have reported that the same thing happened to them in recent days. In fact, many were scared by the notifications and wanted to "clean" their computers immediately. So far, the notifications that appear to users and have become known are the following: thsi test notification, this is test notification, Test Notification. The notifications have appeared in Windows 10 version 1803 (Update ) and 1809 (October 2018 Update).
However, some users have reported that it may not be anything malicious but a simple error in the notification system.
For now, all possibilities are possible.
Microsoft has not yet commented on this incident, so we don't know if it's a simple system typo or if there's a hidden threat behind this bug. This isn't the first time the company has faced security with Windows 10. The Windows 10 October 2018 Update brought some critical bugs that led the company to pull it.
