Bithumb is a cryptocurrency exchange. It is one of the largest exchanges in the world. However, it has been hacked twice since 2017. A third attack took place a few days ago, resulting in the theft of $20 million worth of cryptocurrency.
Bithumb noticed the unauthorized cryptocurrency transaction on March 29.
The amounts stolen were 3 million EOS (i.e. $13.4 million) and 20 million Ripple (XRP) coins (i.e. $6 million).
However, this is not the largest hacking attack ever to hit Bithumb. In 2018, $31 million worth of cryptocurrency was stolen.
After the three attacks, Bithumb believes that some of its staff are helping with the hacking attacks. The platform admits that it had taken care to protect itself from external factors, but had not considered that it should also keep its internal staff in mind.
Hackers of g4ydomrxhege and transfer all EOS to their own address.
According to experts, it is too late to do anything about the stolen EOS as hackers have already exploited it through ChangeNow, a crypto platform that does not require KYC/account.
On the other hand, Bithumb said that all stolen cryptocurrency is protected by the cold wallet.
Bithumb has secured all cryptocurrency through a so-called cold wallet and has locked down deposit and withdrawal services.
The company is certain that staff members were involved in the case. For this reason, an investigation has been launched. It is also committed to ensuring that something like this will not happen again, as it is working on developing a staff control system.
