Microsoft is preparing Windows Lite for dual-screen devices

doubleWindows 10 is currently widely used on low-end computers, but Microsoft is now preparing a lighter version of Windows for dual-screen devices and Chromebook competitors.

In December, it was rumored that Windows Lite would be released soon, and according to a report from The Verge, sources close to Microsoft confirm that they are working on it.

Essentially, Windows Lite will be a very simple version of the Windows that is initially targeted at dual-screen devices, but will later be released to “Chromebook-like devices.”

But Microsoft doesn't have Windows 10 S; according to the report, Windows Lite will be an even more "basic" version of Windows than Windows S. With Microsoft expected to release a dual-screen laptop-like device later this year, it's possible that the company could be preparing Windows Lite for a separate category of devices.

Although we don't know too much about Windows Lite, the operating system is expected to be a mix of the Surface Hub operating system and Microsoft's Windows Phone Continuum interface.

It's not yet known when Microsoft will release Windows Lite or what it will ultimately be called, but Build 2019 (which starts in May) could be the place where we'll hear more about Windows Lite.
