Google confirms that dark mode saves a lot of battery

dark modeIf you're one of those users who needs to charge their smartphone multiple times a day, you know how annoying it can be, especially when you're out and about. Google has some good news for you. At the Android Dev Submit 2018, Google said that dark mode on Androidsaves a huge amount of power, thus increasing battery life.

Through a presentation on power consumption, Google showed how the Pixel's (2016 model) high brightness mode affects battery life, compared to "Dark mode."

In one of the slides, it was shown that maximum brightness in black uses the lowest amount of battery, compared to other colors such as Red, Green, Blue or White.

The same slide also showed the incredibly large amount of power consumption of the color white. Google also acknowledged the fact that white is the “less ideal color.”.

This is ironic, considering that Google's entire Material Design is based on the color white. Furthermore, the revamped UI design still focuses on a white background.

However, since the release of Android 9 Pie, Google has gradually rolled out dark mode to every app. Initially, the company brought Dark Mode as one of the features of Android Pie, which gave a black background to the app explorer.

Then every Google app got its own dark mode. For example, Youtube got dark mode on all platforms, then Android Messages, the Google Phone app, and others.

Maybe dark mode is finally the solution we were looking for. Not only because it's less tiring on the eyes and saves large amounts of battery power, but also because it's very good from an aesthetic point of view.
