In a Twitter announcement, Elon Musk said that Tesla cars will soon receive a major update to their Summon feature. According to Musk, this feature could allow a car to follow its owner, much like a pet would!
With this feature, Tesla car owners will be able to summon their car to come to their location using their phone. Essentially, they will be able to remotely direct their car to their desired location, just like they would with a remote-controlled car, as long as it is in their line of sight.
This feature will roll out over the next six weeks and will be supported by all cars built by the company in the last two years, including the more affordable Tesla Model 3.
In another tweet, Musk also revealed that self-parking will be rolling out next year. The next update to the Summon feature will enable Tesla cars to drive into a parking lot, find an empty spot, and read the signs to confirm if the parking spot is valid and free.
Although the Summon feature was introduced in January 2016, its capabilities were rather limited. It allowed Tesla owners to automatically pull their car out of a garage or parking space and back.
But they certainly couldn't find a place to park on their own, so we'd say this update is a huge improvement.
