Apple and Amazon deny the existence of Chinese spy chips in their servers

chipsRecently, a Bloomberg claimed that Chinese spies had placed chips in servers used by companies like Apple and Amazon to control internal networks.

In response, both Apple and Amazon strongly denied allegations that their servers are controlled by Chinese spies.

The report claimed that both companies discovered these spy chips and later notified US authorities. However, Apple and Amazon denied that any of these claims took place.

Surprisingly, their responses were particularly detailed and lengthy, refuting Bloomberg's claims one by one. Usually, in cases of security flaws, companies issue a brief statement.

According to the two leading tech companies, no such microchips were found on their servers and the intrusion never occurred. Here are the highlights of the responses provided by Amazon and Apple:

Amazon

“As we have stated to Bloomberg BusinessWeek multiple times over the past two months, this is untrue. We have never, in the past or present, discovered any issues involving modified hardware or the presence of malicious chips on SuperMicro motherboards in any Elemental or Amazon system. Nor have we participated in any government investigation.”

Apple

“Apple has never found malicious chips, modified hardware, or vulnerabilities intentionally infiltrated any of its servers. Apple has never had any contact with the FBI or any other agency regarding such an incident. We are not aware of any FBI investigation, nor have we had any contact with law enforcement.”
