Kingston, which recently launched its new UV500 SSD product line, has announced that it is starting production of a 2.5″ drive with a capacity of 2 TB.

The UV500 greatly improves overall system responsiveness with incredible load and transfer times , and of course with no moving parts, it is much less likely to fail compared to mechanical hard drives.
Kingston says the UV500 is the first SSD based on 3D NAND to feature full 256-bit AES encryption and support for TCG Opal 2.0. The drives are designed to achieve read/write speeds of up to 520MB/s and 500MB/s respectively, which puts them competitive (at least in terms of price) with other SATA drives in their class.
As for its controller, it will feature Marvell's 88SS1074 and will be combined with 3D TLC NAND. The controller supports third-generation error correction, low-density (LDPC) technology, as well as reliability and endurance improvements. As for endurance, and the Total Bits Written (TBW) unit, there are differences depending on the capacity. So the 120 GB will have 60 TBW, the 960 GB 480TBW and the 2 TB will have 800 TBW.
The MTBF(Mean Time Between Failure) is estimated at 1,000,000 hours and they will have a 5-year warranty.
The controller-NAND combination it features pushes the drive to reach up to 520 MB/s read and 500 MB/s write, with the exception of the 120GB version which will have 320 MB/s write. The IOPS will have a read of 79000 while the write will range from 18,000 to 50,000 depending on the version of the drive.
Pricing on Kingston's website for the 2 TB model is $696 and is only available in the 2.5-inch size.
