Samsung announces the new Exynos 7 9610 SoC

Samsung last week introduced its new SoC called Exynos 7 9610, designed for smartphones that will be released at the end of the year.

Exynos

The Exynos 7 9610 is equipped with high-performance cores, an advanced GPU, an integrated 4G/LTE modem, as well as 480fps rendering capabilities enhanced with a neural network engine.

It will integrate four Arm Cortex-A73 cores operating at 2.3 GHz, four energy-efficient Arm Cortex-A53 cores operating at 1.6 GHz and an Arm Mali-G72 graphics processor with an unknown frequency. It will also have a Cortex-M4F sensor for motion recognition or voice commands applications. Samsung does not reveal anything about the memory controller of the Exynos 7 9610, but we expect it to support LPDDR4 / LPDDR4X memory.

The Exynos 7 9610’s connectivity features include 802.11ac 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 for near-field communications, a Cat 12 LTE modem that supports 3CA (Three-way Carrier Aggregation) for download speeds of up to 600 Mbps and 2CA for upload speeds of up to 150 Mbps. It also supports all global positioning systems, including GPS, GNSS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo.

One of the new key features of the Exynos 7 9610 is the advanced ISP (Image Processing Unit) that supports 480fps slow-motion video in full HD, image analysis to apply appropriate camera presets to improve photo quality, and advanced intelligent depth sensing that is designed to enable clear shots with a single camera, which means cheaper manufacturing costs. Samsung did not reveal the maximum resolution of these sensors.

Their architecture will be at 10nm and we expect production to begin in the second half of 2018.
