New iOS bugs for iPhone users that affect your private conversations if you use messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram and others.
Brazilian website Mac Magazine reports that it has discovered a new bug in Apple's iOS operating system that could allow Siri to expose your messages from third-party apps even if you have set them to remain hidden.
iOS 11, the latest version of Apple, has a setting that lets you hide the content of notifications on your device's lock screen if it's locked. With this setting enabled, you'll still see that you've received some messages, but you won't be able to read them until you unlock your device.
However, somehow, Siri can read the content of "hidden" notifications, thus allowing anyone to read your messages without unlocking the device.
According to Mac Magazine, the bug does not affect Apple's messaging app, Messages, but only third-party apps, including WhatsApp, Skype, and Telegram, which most iPhone users use on a daily basis. The privacy bug also appears to affect both the stable version of iOS 11.2.6 and the current iOS 11.3 beta.
Mac Magazine reported the bug to Apple, so we expect it to be fixed before the final release of iOS 11.3, which is expected next week. Reports suggest that the bug also exists in iOS 11.3 beta 6.
