HTC began pre-orders yesterday morning for the new HTC Vive Pro Head Mounted Display. Additionally, every Vive Pro HMD purchased before June will include a free six-month trial of Viveport where owners will have the opportunity to play 30 game titles with their new HMD.

The HTC Vive Pro VR HMD is aimed at users and professionals who want to have the latest VR technology in front of their eyes. The changes compared to its predecessor are not few and certainly promise a better experience in all categories. The Vive Pro is equipped with dual 3.5-inch OLED displays at a combined resolution of 2880×1600 and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. This increase in resolution compared to the current Vive (78% more pixels) significantly increases the clarity of the resulting image. However, it is worth noting that the FOV remains at 110 ° – the same as the Vive (non-Pro). In addition, the new Pro version will feature headphones with a built-in amplifier as well as dual microphones, which HTC says creates an “increased sense of presence and sound through noise cancellation functions”.

The Vive Pro is also designed for increased comfort, using a headband that balances the weight of the headset more evenly and features simple adjustment buttons for users who wear glasses. The Pro also works with both SteamVR tracking 1.0 and 2.0. Essentially, users get an upgraded Vive with increased resolution, integrated audio, and a redesigned headset strap for better comfort.
Its release is expected on April 5th and its price (pre-order) is $799.
