Windows 10: It's well known that the PC market hasn't been doing well lately. New statistics are coming to make the situation worse, showing another 3.6% decline in the third quarter of 2017.
This means that worldwide computer shipments totaled 67 million units, with the majority of manufacturers showing significant declines.
Apple, for example, has been a bit of a disappointment, with its Macs selling 4.6 million units in the quarter, down from 4.8 million in 2016, a 5.6% drop. Its market share fell from 7.0% to 6.9%.
HP and Lenovo remain the two leaders of the list, although the latter saw a 1.5% decline during the quarter, while HP improved by 4.4%. Both companies sold nearly 14.5 million units in the third quarter, with a market share of 21.8% and 21.4% respectively.
ASUS was the company that recorded the biggest drop with -9%, as it sold just 4.8 million units during the quarter from 5.3 million in 2016.
The research says the market benefited from strong demand for Windows 10. That's why Apple lost so much ground. Even in the US, where the company is very popular, there was a significant drop of 10.3%, with just 14.7 million units sold during the quarter.
Essentially, Windows 10 brought the demand for computers, which of course varies by region.
