CentOS 7.4 1708: Red Hat released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 on August 1, 2017.Of course, as I mentioned, since then I (and probably all fans of the distribution) have been waiting for the upcoming 'Release Point' of CentOS, which means that the main version of a distribution (in this case CentOS Linux 7) is updated to version 4 from the Red Hat source code.
As I mentioned in the announcement of the new Red Hat version, CentOS fans will have to wait about a month for the distribution update.
In fact, according to a post on the CentOS blog, the upcoming CentOS Linux 7 (1708) release is already on the developers' screens. It should be noted that Red Hat's source code has updated the distribution in about 700 packages.
So the upcoming CentOS 7.4 1708 release should have the corresponding updates. The process that the CentOS Project follows for each new release is as follows:
When a new version of the RHEL 7 source code is available, the public version of the source code is uploaded to the CentOS git server (git.centos.org). They then use a published set of tools to create RPM sources from the git source code. This immediately starts the development of the updated version of CentOS Linux. A program called mock is used to create binary RPM packages from the SRPMs.

The CentOS operating system is developed by a community of open source contributors. Typically, CentOS users are companies and individuals who do not need strong commercial support for their operating system.
CentOS is a 100% compatible rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, fully compliant with the requirements of the Red Hat distribution. CentOS is for those who need the stability of an enterprise-class operating system without the cost of certification and support.[/su_note]
According to the publication on August 4, 2017, by that date they had completed 574 packages out of the approximately 700 SRPMs required for the updated version. It should be noted that this will be the largest number of updated packages to be released since the official announcement.
After the development is complete, a new repo will appear, for the necessary beta testing. The address where the repository and installation media will appear will be: mirror.centos.org. It will be in a folder named 7.4.1708.
