Google Android 8.0 Oreo: In an announcement that was timed a bit melodramatically to coincide with the solar eclipse in New York, Google revealed the name of the latest version of Android.
The name he revealed was the obvious choice, as the upcoming Android O is called Oreo after the famous cookies.
The upcoming mobile operating system will not only be the latest update to Android, but will also bring a number of very useful features, such as video-in-picture, new emoji, and notification badges.
Google says that the Pixel phones and Nexus 5X/6P have already passed testing and that they are expected to start rolling out the operating system in phases very soon, with the Pixel C and Nexus Player to follow soon after.
Google also said it will be pushing the operating system to the Android Open Source Project today and that “device manufacturers including Essential, General Mobile, HMD Global Home by Nokia, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp, and Sony will be shipping or upgrading devices with Android 8.0 Oreo.”
