After our morning post about the release of the new version of Firefox, we received a question on Facebook about how to install the application in a Linux. As you know, many things in Linux are done manually, and not automated with some super duper installer.
If you consider it a lot of work, then Linux probably isn’t for you…
Below we will see step by step how to install the Mozilla on Linux, specifically on the CentOS distribution, not that it matters.

Open your terminal.
First we need to download the new version. What I usually do when I open a terminal window is log in as root with the su command.
I use su every time I open the terminal so that I don't have to type sudo constantly with each command.
With the su command (you will then need to enter the password, which is not displayed) you stay in the folder of the user you are using, whereas with the “su -” command you are automatically taken to the root's folder.
So I downloaded the new version of Firefox 55.0 to the giorgos folder, located in the CentOS Home with the following command:
wget https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/55.0/linux-x86_64/en-US/firefox-55.0.tar.bz2
Afterwards you must decompress the file using the following command
tar xvf firefox-55.0.tar.bz2
With the following command we rename the old Firefox folder. To find out exactly where the old Firefox is installed, use the command “which firefox”

mv /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefox-old
or with sudo if you did not initially use su
sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefox-old
and finally we move with a shortcut the folder containing the new version
ln -s /home/giorgos/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox
or with sudo if you did not initially use su
sudo ln -s /home/giorgos/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox
in the path of the two commands above (which is essentially one) put where giorgos is your own username.
You are done, enjoy your new browser and sail safe, as usual…
