Apple brought a dual-camera system to the iPhone with the launch of the iPhone 7 Plus in September 2016 , and Samsung was expected to follow suit with the Samsung S8 in the spring of this year.
Surprisingly, though, Samsung decided to stick with a single-lens camera even though various reports claimed that the company would adopt a dual-camera configuration as well.
Recent photos confirm that Samsung did indeed create several S8 phones with dual-camera systems, as well as a number of changes that ultimately did not make it into the final model.
Specifically, the Galaxy S8 could feature vertical dual cameras with the flash placed just below the camera. The big surprise is that this version would not have a fingerprint sensor on the back, so there is a high possibility that the sensor would be integrated into the display.
The in-display sensor is a feature that Samsung has been planning for quite some time for both the Galaxy S8 and Note 8, but ultimately we won't be able to enjoy it as the company didn't have the technology fully ready for installation.
The upcoming Galaxy Note 8, which is expected to be released in late August, will feature a fingerprint sensor on the back just like the Galaxy S8.
On the other hand, Apple seems to be at a more advanced stage of developing an in-display fingerprint sensor, with the new OLED iPhone 8 expected in September being the model to introduce it. Samsung, however, is said to be introducing this technology with the Galaxy S9 in spring next year.
