BMW in turn decided to follow the tactics of most mobile app developers by abandoning Windows phones and focusing entirely on iOS and Android software .
The official DriveNow app no longer supports Windows phones, but users can still book a vehicle over the phone. Obviously, this isn't the most convenient way to deal with Windows users, but since the app is no longer available, there should be some alternatives. In most cases, the easiest way to deal with an app removal is to go to your browser and point it to the service's website, but unfortunately this option is not available this time.
So here comes a third-party application called Free2Move that offers similar features, of course with support for BMW's DriveNow but also other car-sharing services such as car2go and eMio.
"Unfortunately, the latest version of our app does not support Windows Phone. However, you can reserve your vehicle by calling our customer service toll-free by opening a customer card," says an official statement from the company.
Obviously, Android and iOS clients will continue to provide support for one key reason: They are the choice of most users.
Unfortunately, Microsoft remains silent on the future of its mobile platform despite the growing number of developers and users deciding to move to Android and iOS. It should be noted that the company recently reiterated its commitment to phones, but these are probably more vague statements that do not provide specific details.
