We analyzed the camera of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 +

As we all know, Samsung has brought a lot of improvements to the new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ compared to their predecessors. One feature that seems to have remained the same is the main camera of both versions. The megapixel count on the Galaxy S8 and S7 is the same while both smartphones have dual pixel autofocus with phase detection, OIS and f/1.7 aperture.Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+

Leading up to the official launch, there was talk of incorporating a new Sony IMX333 sensor into the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, essentially a brand new camera sensor that Sony has yet to officially introduce. It turns out that Samsung did indeed have two different rear camera suppliers, just like it did with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Some Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ units use the S5K2L1 Isocell sensor from System LSI while others use the Sony IMX333. Of course, both feature the same 12.2MP resolution as well as the same 4K video recording capability. Therefore, the final image and video quality is similar regardless of the sensor used.

As for the secondary camera, however, Samsung has made significant improvements, reaching 8MP and incorporating a Sony IMX320 or System LSI S5K3H1 sensor. Both sensors feature autofocus and QHD video recording.

It should be noted that the front camera of this year's flagship is much more complex than that of the Galaxy S7 as it includes a camera sensor and an iris scanner.

Apparently, the Galaxy S8 front camera module supplier is unable to increase production rates, resulting in the current production yield being below 70%.
