Windows 7 market share increases

New market share data provided by NetMarketShare allowed growth in February, while Windows 10, which is Microsoft's latest operating system, began to lose ground.

Specifically, Windows 7 is the number one desktop operating system with a 48.41 percent share, while Windows 10 is currently the first runner-up with 25.19 percent. Windows 7 is the number one desktop operating system with a 48.41 percent share, while Windows 10 is currently the first runner-up with 25.19 percent. Windows XP is in third place with 8.45 percent, followed by Windows 8.1 with 6.87 percent.

As far as Windows 7 and Windows 10 are concerned, it looks like the older version is improving its market share once again, while its younger sibling is actually going down, not by a significant amount, but still declining at a time when everyone is expected to want something newer.

Windows 7 improved from 47.20 percent to 48.41 percent, gaining more than 1 percent market share in just one month.

On the other side is Windows 10, which dropped from 25.30 percent to 25.19 percent. As you can see, this isn't a significant drop, but it's still a drop, rather than  Microsoft for Windows 10 and the free upgrade offer that everyone is supposed to get for the new operating system.

Microsoft, however, is well aware that adoption of the application is slowing down, and the company admitted that it could miss its goal of bringing Windows 10 to 1 billion devices by the end of FY2017, mainly due to upgrades being made at a slower pace than initially anticipated.
