The computing sector has attracted investments from many technology giants, including Microsoft , which approached this growing business with Windows 10.
And while Microsoft tries to claim the top spot in this field, Canonical comes to take the trophy from its hands as it was recently crowned the best company in the computing domain.
Canonical, which is widely known for Ubuntu, received an award for transforming computers and digital surfaces at the Orange Device Partner Awards ceremony.
In other words, Canonical did a much better job with Ubuntu than Microsoft with Continuum, which is supposed to turn a Windows 10 mobile device into a portable computer with the help of an external screen.
«This annual event takes a look at the last ten years and recognizes the rapid evolution of the mobile communications sector, emphasizing innovation, design, and marketing. We hope that 2017 will be even better.» said a spokesperson for the organization.
While Canonical has received several praises for its implementation, Microsoft on its side is planning several improvements to the Continuum functionality that could contribute to a more PC-like experience on the mobile phone.
However, when we tested the Continuum experience on an HP Elite X3 Windows 10 laptop , using a Windows phone as a computer was quite limited, mainly because the key feature, the larger screen, is missing.
With Continuum there are no resizable windows nor taskbar support, and the experience itself is quite slow despite the phone's powerful hardware. Παρ’όλ’αυτά, with the Windows 10 Creators Update in April we will have several new improvements.
