Samsung has just announced that its new Exynos 9 Series 8895 chip has entered mass production as of today. It is the company's first chipset to be manufactured using the 10nm FinFET process technology, and features an enhanced transistor structure for 3D.
According to Samsung, the new chipset offers 27% faster results and consumes 40% less power compared to processors built with 14nm process technology.
Additionally, the Exynos 9 series will be the world's first chipset to feature a gigabit LTE modem, which is said to support no less than 5CA. Basically, this means the chipset can deliver incredibly fast speeds with performance at max.1Gbps (Cat.16) downlink and 150Mbps (Cat.13) uplink.
“In addition to being developed with the most advanced 10nm FinFET process technology, the new Exynos 9 Series 8895 incorporates Samsung’s cutting-edge technologies including a 2nd generation custom CPU, gigabit LTE modem, and more.
“With leading technologies such as VPU, the Exynos 8895 will drive innovation in next-generation smartphones, VR headsets, and automotive infotainment systems,” said Ben Hur, Vice President of System LSI Marketing at Samsung Electronics
The new Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC (system-on-chip) features eight cores, consisting of four second-generation custom designed CPU cores that are engineered for better performance and more power.
In addition to the octa-core processor, the chipset also features an ARM Mali-G71 graphics processing unit that is said to deliver “next-level 3D graphics performance and minimize latency for a 4K UHD VR gaming experience.”
Samsung also revealed that the Exynos 8895 chipset will feature a dedicated processing unit to improve security solutions, which is required for mobile payments that use various authentication methods, such as iris scanning or fingerprint recognition
Also, the Exynos 9 series comes with a new built-in Vision Processing Unit (VPU) that can recognize and analyze elements or movements for better video tracking, panoramic image processing, as well as machine vision technology.
