As many of you may remember, Microsoft announced Continuum in late 2015 as the company sought to turn Windows Phones into laptops that allow users to remain productive using only a mouse, keyboard, and an external display.
Continuum has received several improvements since then, and Microsoft promises to offer even more in the future, including support for resizable windows, a PC-like taskbar, and a system tray that will make the experience more like that found on a desktop.
While Microsoft has been pushing Continuum so hard, other manufacturers have been more hesitant to release a feature that would turn smartphones into computers. But things are changing now that Continuum has raised the bar as more and more companies are interested in introducing similar technologies to their devices. One of them is Samsung.
Apparently, one of the features of the upcoming Galaxy S8 is incredibly similar to Windows 10 Mobile's Continuum as the Korean company wants to offer users an easy way to transform their device into a computer with a larger screen.
The feature will be called DeX and will allow Galaxy S8 owners to connect their phone to an external display, which will offer access to new features like multi-tasking. When connected to the larger screen, the Android UI will transform into Continuum in a similar way to Windows 10 Mobile.
The Galaxy S8 is expected to debut in the spring, and we'll learn more about the DeX feature when it arrives.
