The official website of Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas was compromised a few hours ago by a Tunisian hacker group in protest against the war in Syria which has led to the killing of innocent people.
The group, known as the Tunisian Fallaga Team, took over the website and posted a message saying “Stop killing people in Syria,” with two hashtags, namely #Op_Russia and #save_aleppo.
The attack was launched by “Mr O.Jz and Hetler Tn and Fallag Kill3r,” according to a message posted on the website, and also included photos from videos of attacks in Syria posted on the homepage. In addition, the hackers posted a video on YouTube that showed armed men and a woman fighting the war in Syria.
The messages they contain accuse United Nations military forces of the "intentional killing" of men, women and children in eastern Aleppo, ultimately calling for the war to stop as soon as possible.
A government spokesman explained that the website's administrators have already regained control of the page and revealed that IT specialists are working to strengthen the security of all websites operated by Australian authorities.
"The website was hacked this morning and has now been fixed, work is underway to improve the security of MP websites," the spokesperson said.
Furthermore, Deputy Minister Kosmos Samaras revealed in an interview with AAP that hackers also attacked many other government-owned websites because political websites are the most effective way to spread the message they want.
The website was restored after about 30 minutes, according to Australian officials, and no other data was compromised. Australian authorities now expect many more similar attacks, mainly against the websites of Labor MPs.
