Samsung has finally gotten into the gaming business with its first gaming laptop called the "Notebook Odyssey," which was unveiled at CES 2017 on Wednesday.
The computer is available in two screen sizes for mainstream users, 15.6 and 17.3 inches, and can be easily upgraded.
“Today, both serious and casual gamers are looking for devices that not only offer the best graphics in their games, but also feature a sleek and portable design,” said YoungGyoo Choi, senior vice president of Samsung. “We are excited to expand our gaming PC portfolio with design enhancements, cutting-edge technology and enhanced gaming usability.”
Initially, the 15.6-inch Notebook Odyssey has a 7th generation (Kaby Lake) Intel Core i7 processor and features a full HD (1920 × 1080) display with anti-reflective coating. It will include up to 32GB of RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD and 1TB hard drive, Nvidia GTX1050 graphics card with 4GB of GDDR5 memory. This model will offer two SODIMM slots, a 43Wh battery and weighs 2.53 kg. It will also include one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI port, an Ethernet jack and 4K video capability. The keyboard has LED backlighting and illuminated WASD keys.
On the other hand, the 17.3-inch Notebook Odyssey will also feature a 7th-generation (Kaby Lake) Intel Core i7 processor and a full HD (1920×1080) display. It will include up to 64GB of RAM, a 512GB PCIe SSD, and a 1TB hard drive. It will also include a USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.0, and it will also have customizable RGB backlighting. This model will offer four SODIMM slots, a 93Wh battery, and weighs 3.79 kg. The graphics card was not revealed for the 17.3-inch model.
Since the notebooks are made for gamers, they will include HexaFlow vents that will cool and ventilate the system so that it remains at an appropriate temperature. These vents are located on the bottom of the device and can be removed for storage and memory expansion.
The 15.6-inch Notebook Odyssey is expected to launch in February with a starting price of $1,199. However, the 17.3-inch model will launch later in the spring, with pricing yet to be announced. It will be available in black or white.
