Samsung plans to launch two types of foldable smartphones

Samsung seems determined to bring foldable smartphones to market, but its strategy for success needs a very good plan. Fortunately, that's exactly what Samsung believes, at least according to the latest information from South Korea.

Samsung

Korean media reports feature a two-speed strategy which will help the company's transition to the foldable smartphone market much smoother.

Basically, Samsung plans to launch two types of foldable smartphones and will observe customer behavior towards them. If both prove popular, then the company will start mass producing them.

Also, the first foldable smartphone from Samsung will be launched in 2017, but it will come in limited quantity, as the South Korean company plans to test it in the market.

So, what exactly are these different types of foldable smartphones? Well, it seems that Samsung has already developed a dual-screen smartphone that uses a flat screen on each side, while the other will be a foldable smartphone that will bend due to its single flexible OLED screen.

Only the dual-screen model is likely to be launched in 2017, while the truly foldable smartphone features a flexible OLED panel and will be introduced sometime in 2018.

The dual-screen smartphone that the company is launching in 2017 will not have a flexible display but a hinge in the middle. Since it does not have a separate screen when folded, it looks more like a tablet when you open it.

The truly foldable smartphone that Samsung will launch in 2018 at the earliest will come with innovative hardware developed by the South Korean company. As previously reported, the display of this phone will be flexible.
