Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was one of the company's top executives who supported the idea of Yahoo being acquired by Redmond, and now that he is no longer inside the company, he has decided to offer more details on how such a deal would have been achieved, while also predicting the acquisition of Twitter by Google.
In an interview with CNBC, Ballmer said he believes Microsoft and Yahoo have some kind of synergy that could bring them together to work towards a common goal, explaining that he truly believes search engines would be significantly improved if these two companies signed a deal.
Yahoo was sold to Verizon earlier this year for $4.8 billion, a move the US carrier regretted after a hacking scandal was revealed shortly after the acquisition, so there is little chance we will see a closer "partnership" between them and Microsoft.
"Microsoft is the only company that has ever had a synergy with Yahoo – because they could merge the two search giants together and get rid of the engineers – all good things can happen," he said in a somewhat odd statement because the phrase "get rid of the engineers" raises some questions about Ballmer's strategy for how such a deal could have been achieved.
Ballmer also commented on rumors linking him to a possible acquisition of Twitter, explaining that although he likes the service, he believes Google should be the one to buy it.
Steve Ballmer, who currently owns the Los Angeles Clippers, said he has no plans to increase his 4% stake in Twitter because for now he wants to continue focusing on his sports investments.
