Google today announced the release of the developer preview of Android Nougat 7.1, which features app shortcuts on the home screen, support for circular icons, and image keyboards.
On October 11, Google said this version would be released later this month, and it appears to have kept its promise.
This developer preview release is a bit different from the ones we've seen before, as it can be installed on some other devices and not just on Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones.
The new Android Nougat 7.1 is currently available on a very limited number of Android devices: It's coming to the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P phones, and the Pixel C convertible tablet.
“The Developer Preview will expand to other devices in November,” Google engineering vice president Dave Burke wrote in a blog post.
So if you are enrolled in the Android Beta program and have the appropriate device, you will get the new version without having to do anything.
