A free game for iOS and Android, called Sea Hero Quest, is now available for users interested in contributing to the collection of data on dementia.
Sea Hero Quest is the creation of a large European collaboration, in which Cosmote also participates, and aims to collect data about dementia. Data which, according to the creators, will help in the development of new diagnostic tests for the disease.
The aim of the game is for the player to find their way through mazes of islands and icebergs, with navigational data being recorded. The measurements are related to the disease of dementia as one of the first effects experienced by people living with dementia is the loss of spatial orientation, even in familiar places and environments. The final form of the disease is the severe loss of general cognitive ability such as loss of memory, perception, etc.
The game's contribution to research is quite significant. According to the research team, "if 100,000 people played this game for 2 minutes each, the data collected would correspond to more than 50 years of research.".
Those interested in participating in the whole effort can download the game completely free of charge to their smartphone or tablet from here.
