Canonical has just released a major update to its Snapcraft tool for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus. Version 2.10 is available to download and install, and can be used to package applications as Snaps.
The new Snapcraft 2.10 looks to be a major release for the app with a lot of new features. Among the new features added is support for macaroons for authentication.
Macaroons support for authentication will allow Snapcraft developers to create additional features for communicating with store APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). Additionally, it appears that there is now support for zip files, which will be used as a kind of source for plugins.
Also, the new Snapcraft 2.10 has the ability to command “snapcraft init.” The command can create a valid template that new users can use to start packaging their applications as Snaps.
As we mentioned, the new version 2.10.1 is currently available in the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus software repositories, and you can install it by following the instructions below.
