ActInSpace: On May 20-21, α2-innohub in Athens and π1-innohub in Patras will simultaneously open their doors to welcome students, young scientists, engineers, programmers, young professionals, and creative people to a creative marathon, who will compete in teams to solve the 54 challenges of the global ActInSpace using space data, creating in 24 hours an innovative plan with a realistic solution to best address these challenges.
The competition is open to the public and there is no cost to participate, however pre-registration is required. Its aim is to create new innovative ideas and business initiatives by utilizing space technologies and cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit.
Contestants are invited to choose from the challenges the one that suits them, and with the guidance of experts and distinguished mentors, create their own project, which they will present to a committee at the end of the day.
The winner of the national competition in Athens and Patras will represent Greece at the European final in Toulouse on June 29, 2016.
The winning team of the ActInSpace global final will win a zero-gravity flight on the Novespace astronaut training aircraft. The prizes also include a €100,000 voucher for satellite data from Airbus Defence and Space, while a large number of teams will receive support to further develop their idea and create their own start-up.
si-Cluster, aiming to promote youth entrepreneurship and the development of space technology in Greece, is bringing the international competition ActInSpace to Greece for the first time. The national ActInSpace competition is implemented under the coordination of Corallia, the coordinating body of si-Cluster, with the kind sponsorship of si-Cluster members: Alma Technologies, ESS, Planetek Hellas and GET, the support of EVIDITE, IEEE SB NTUA and IEEE SB University of Patras, the technical support of Lancom and the communication sponsor The TOC.
ActInSpace, which this year takes place simultaneously in 27 cities worldwide, is organized by the European Space Agency (ESA), the French Space Agency (CNES), and ESA BIC Sud France and supported by Airbus Defence and Space, Airfrance/KLM and Novespace.
