Russian hackers have millions of stolen emails in their hands!

Most of the accounts are Mail.ru, but there are also Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail email users on the list!

The discovery was made by Hold Security and Reuters said it was among the largest lists of credentials discovered since cyberattacks hit US banks and retailers in 2014.

Alex Holden, founder and chief security officer of Hold Security, has uncovered some of the most high-profile data breaches in recent years, including attacks on JPMorgan, Target, and Adobe Systems.

Researchers found this information by accident after discovering a Russian hacker on a forum. The hacker boasted that he had collected and intended to give others a large number of stolen email details, amounting to 1.17 billion records.

After removing duplicates, Holden said he found 57 million Mail.ru accounts, a huge number compared to the service's 64 million monthly users. The database also includes tens of millions of entries from Gmail (24 million), Hotmail (33 million) and Yahoo (40 million) accounts, and hundreds of thousands of accounts from German and Chinese email providers.

According to the company, thousands of the stolen credentials belong to employees of major US banks and manufacturing and retail companies.

Because many people tend to use the same passwords on many sites, this stolen information can ruin them.

The forum hacker, who is unknown from whom he got the information, was selling a copy of the stolen data for only $1! The Hold Security team refused to buy the stolen data but eventually obtained a copy by telling the hacker that they would write good words about him online.

It is still not known how the hackers managed to obtain this data!
