Skype on the Web via Edge without plugins

As Microsoft promised, Skype now works in Edge without plugins and without the need to download any application.Skype Edge

Skype announced that it had been trying to integrate ORTC technology (a standard for video streams over the Web) since late 2014.

Edge, meanwhile, became compatible with the technology last September, so today's announcement shouldn't come as a huge surprise.

Before you could use Skype on the Web, but you needed to install a plugin to make calls.

Now you can simply open Skype for Web, Outlook.com, Office Online , or OneDrive natively through Edge, and no additional process or setup is required.

Please note that the other person you are talking to must have the latest version of Skype for Windows or Mac. Currently, calls to Android or iOS do not work.

As for other browsers, Microsoft says its developers are working to bring the service to Chrome and Firefox, “as soon as both browsers support the H.264 video codec.”
