The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate investigated a case of child pornography, solicitation of children for sexual purposes and pornographic performances of minors.
For this case, a 44-year-old Greek national was arrested in the context of the ongoing proceedings, while a case file was also filed against a 14-year-old foreign girl, a 15-year-old Greek national, as well as a foreigner, resident abroad, whose details are being investigated.
The investigation into the case began after a complaint from a 13-year-old girl and her mother, according to which two nude photos of the 13-year-old had been posted on a profile maintained by the 14-year-old defendant on a well-known social networking site. In addition, according to the complaint, the case involves the 15-year-old defendant, who was in possession of the photos, as well as the unknown foreigner, who threatened the 13-year-old, through a profile on the social networking site, that he would post them too.
The 13-year-old also chatted with the arrested 44-year-old through the website in question, thinking he was a 21-year-old person and had sent him personal photos of herself.
Subsequently, the information was brought to the attention of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office, which issued a relevant order to lift the confidentiality of the communications.
Immediately, the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate conducted a thorough and in-depth police and digital-internet investigation of the facts and data of the case and identified numerous electronic traces in internet connections, which corresponded to the homes of the individuals involved.
In legal investigations conducted by police teams of the Cybercrime Unit at the homes of the three (3) defendants, the digital media that they possessed and managed exclusively were located and during the on-site inspection, their involvement in the alleged acts was identified.
Specifically, the following was found for the 44-year-old:
- that he had the minor victim's details stored both in his phone contacts and in an online application,
- that he is the administrator of the profile in question, through which the conversations between him and the underage victim were conducted, which were also found,
- numerous personal photos that the minor had sent him, via the social networking page,
- numerous photos with obscene content, which he himself sent to the 13-year-old,
- corresponding online conversations with other profiles of individuals, some of whom have a stated age of under fifteen (15) years.
During the investigations, a mobile phone, two (2) laptops and two (2) tablets were found and seized.
The seized digital media will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for further laboratory investigation. The case files will be submitted to the appropriate authorities, while the local police authorities have been informed of their own further actions regarding the unknown perpetrator, a resident abroad.
