The team behind Skype just announced that they have added a new feature to their messaging app, called Moji. The new feature is available on all three major mobile platforms: Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.
Moji is a new way for users to chat with their Skype contacts via text message, on a more colorful background and in a funnier way .
It seems that thanks to the new feature, Skype users will soon be able to add pre-created video clips from movies and TV shows into their text messages and conversations.
“Mojis are short video clips from your favorite movies and TV shows that you can insert directly into a Skype conversation when words aren’t enough to convey expressions like “Aha,” “haha,” or for moments of surprise,” the developers explain in a blog post.
To send a new Moji, Skype users just need to tap the emoticon button, then browse through Moji previews themed around a movie or expression, and then simply drop it into the chat.
According to the developers, the database that users will search for video clips will contain some of the funniest, craziest, and most iconic moments from some of the best TV and movie moments ever released.
To bring Moji to Skype, Microsoft partnered with companies like Universal Studios, Disney Muppets, BBC, and other studios around the world.
The first Moji clips that Skype users will be able to take advantage of will be from Despicable Me, Bridesmaids, Pitch Perfect, Jurassic Park, The Muppets and many more.
You can download Skype for Android for free from the Google Play Store. You will need a device running Android 4.0 or higher.
For iOS users, you can download the app via the App Store. It should work smoothly on all devices with iOS 7 or later.
And for Windows Phone users, you can download it via the Windows Store. It should be compatible with all devices running Windows Phone 8.1 and above.
