Microsoft has just released a new browser that isn't the familiar Internet Explorer or the new Microsoft Edge. It's available in the Windows Store under the name JavaScript Browser.
The new browser is compatible only with Windows 10, which means that Windows 8.x users will not find it if they search for it in the Windows Store.
The browser has been released as a PoC to demonstrate the capabilities of the Windows 10 platform.
It works like any other Windows 10 application: you can open it from the Start menu, for example, and when you do, the following default screen will appear.
Note that the application is nothing more than a technical demonstration of a web browser.
The UI (interface) looks like any modern browser, but you will immediately notice that it does not support tabs. This means you can display only one webpage or service per page opening.
You will also notice that some features are missing. For example, while settings are available, they are limited to full-screen and clearing the cache and favorites.
Features such as extensions, internet permissions, developer tools, or a search page are not present.
The browser uses EdgeHTML, the rendering engine of Microsoft Edge, together with the WebView control used by Windows 10 applications.
Microsoft published the Project code on Github as an open source project, so all interested users can access the code of the new application.
We should note that the JavaScript Browser does not support plugins, which means you will not be able to load Flash or Java applications or games on websites.
The application, as you understand, is not designed to replace the web browsers you use, but it is a very good opportunity for developers who want to get involved with a Microsoft open source project.
