Microsoft has just changed its tune by rolling out the Office apps for Windows 10 to their final release. Ahead of the official launch of Windows 10 on July 29, the company released the final versions of the Office apps to those who were testing the preview versions. 
Not much seems to have changed in the apps, but they are clearly more refined to run on the upcoming Windows 10 operating system. While they will also run on desktop computers, Microsoft called the apps mobile apps, since they are primarily designed for touchscreen smartphones and tablets that will run on Windows 10.
So if you only need Office for basic editing, the standalone applications are perfect and you can download them directly from the links below. They are very light, fast and very easy to use.
Microsoft has also integrated OneDrive into the apps, so you can edit documents from the cloud and continue where you left off.

It should be mentioned that while the latest Office applications are no longer in preview, they are not truly definitive or final.
Microsoft is taking a different approach to Windows 10 servicing, which will provide regular, perhaps monthly, updates to the operating system and its associated applications, according to TheVerge. The Office apps for Windows 10 are part of a broader strategy for Microsoft's Office to now be updated regularly.
