Goods with counterfeit labels are familiar to everyone, as they range from fake Rolex watches to corn flakes.
Of course companies hunt down fraudsters as a fake or adulterated product can ruin their reputation, which in some cases, took centuries to cultivate.
So we have the smart bottle of cognac from distiller Rémy Martin. Rémy Martin and digital innovation company Selinko have developed the Rémy Martin Club Connected Bottle, which certifies that the bottles you buy have not been opened.
The Rémy Martin Club Connected Bottle uses NFC technology developed by Selinko. The technology uses a tamper-proof NFC tag that is embedded in the bottle's sealing cap.
The company says this tag is based on banking-standard ANSSI-EAL4+ asymmetric encryption technology that provides security equal to that of passports and bank cards.
Using an Android smartphone app, the buyer can use their phone and the app will show them whether the bottle is 100 percent from a safe source and that it is still sealed.
“The Rémy Martin Club Connected Bottle not only guarantees the authenticity of the product,” says Augustin Depardon, Executive Director of Remy Martin.
“But it also allows us to communicate directly with our consumers, who enjoy our products. Our communication can now be fully aligned with our customers’ preferences for optimal relevance.”
The Rémy Martin Club Connected Bottle will initially be available only in nightclubs in China. Later, it will be available everywhere.
