Andy Rubin , one of the creators of Android , is leaving Google , it has been announced.
Rubin, who is considered the "father" of the popular operating system, will leave after about nine years at the technology giant. According to reports, he plans to establish an "incubator" for hardware startups.
"I want to wish Andy the best with what's to come. With Android, he's created something truly remarkable - with a billion and more satisfied users. Thank you," said Google CEO and co-founder Larry Page.

His departure comes after Rubin left the Android division in March 2013 to start working on the company's robotics program. According to a BBC report, he was behind the acquisition of seven robotics companies in six months, as part of a rumored attempt to develop a rival to Amazon's alleged upcoming drone delivery system, claims that Google describes as rumors and speculation. Android "passed" to Sundar Pichai.
As noted in the BBC report, the announcement comes as part of a series of changes at Google - which, according to the New York Times, are aimed at relieving Larry Page of the responsibility of overseeing individual projects.
Rubin's position will be taken by Professor James Kuffner, a researcher at Google's Robotics Institute and Carnegie Mellon, who has worked on the company's self-driving car program. As reported in a Guardian article, Rubin - who left Apple in 1992 - was known for "isolating" the Android team from the rest of Google, and managing it as if it were a separate company within the tech giant.
