Are you an illustrator, photographer, or graphic designer? If so, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the shape, look, and feel of Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 – but only for the next few weeks.
The popular Ubuntu has announced a wallpaper creation contest for its upcoming release, which is expected to arrive in mid-October.
Out of all the wallpapers that will take part in the contest, 10 will be selected. Do you think you have the talent for it? Here's everything you need to know.
Competition Rules
Anyone can participate in the Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 Wallpapers contest. You don't need to be an award-winning photographer or have a degree to participate. All you need is creativity and the know-how to create an image in the right pixels.
Ten wallpapers will be selected through a public vote, with two backgrounds coming from each of the following 5 categories:
- Nature
- Architecture
- Abstract
- Fantasy
- Space
The UG Wiki states that remixes and versions of work by other photographers will be accepted, as long as they are compatible with the Creative Commons ShareAlike 4.0.
The submission instructions also state that Wallpapers:
Must not feature brand names, logos, or trademarks
Must not use violent, religious themes, or explicit imagery
Must “fight with subtlety” (e.g., using a single focal point)
Must fit nicely with the GNOME Shell UI
The original work must have a minimum resolution of 2560×1600 pixels.
When you finish your project, you can upload it to the competition pool on Flickr before August 15th.
