Less power consumption and lower cost are the two main features of the new version of the " barebones " Raspberry Pi computer , B+.
As reported in a BBC report, the cost of the new model - which is being released as the Pi seems to face increasing competition from other types of tiny computers (Beaglebone Black, Hummingboard, APC 8750, Android MK802 mini PC, Banana Pi, Matrix TBS2910) - will be $35.
The B+ is based on the same Broadcom chip as the previous versions and also has 512 MB of memory, but it comes with a number of changes: the analog and composite video connector has been abandoned in favor of a four-pole connector, while the SD card slot has been replaced by a micro-SD module. Also, better power management means that it can manage four USB peripherals.
As Eben Upton, one of the system's creators, wrote on the Raspberry Pi website, "this is not a Raspberry Pi 2, but the final evolution of the original Raspberry Pi.".
He also pointed out that, "we believe you will love Model B+, but to ensure continuity of supply for our industrial customers we will keep Model B in production as long as there is demand.".
