The number of people on the planet with internet, according to a study by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) of the United Nations. On the other hand, 4 billion people will remain without internet access.
The ITU predicts that internet penetration will reach this year 40% of the global population, with 78% coming from developed countries and 32% from the developing world. The expansion of users will remain at relatively low levels in the developed world, at 3,3%, compared to the increase of 8,7% that corresponds to developing states.
Conversely, the end of the year will find 4 billion people offline, of whom over 90% live in the developing world. Specifically in Africa, only 1 in 5 people will have internet access, while in America two-thirds of the population will be online. However, the highest penetration rate will be recorded in Europe, reaching 75%.
As for mobile internet, the number of connections will reach 2.3 billion connections worldwide, of which 55% correspond to developed countries. In the same countries, however, the penetration of fixed broadband connections will remain low, not exceeding 10%.
