Microsoft released yesterday on its established Patch Tuesday for the month of May, security fixes for its software and operating systems, excluding Windows XP.
The company states it is determined to stop the updates for Windows XP and reminded everyone who still has them on their systems that they must change the operating system as soon as possible.
“If you are still using Windows XP, you will not be able to receive security updates via Windows Update or the Microsoft Update service. Support for Windows XP stopped on April 8, and if you continue to use the operating system without support, your computer will be vulnerable to possible attacks and over time its performance will be affected” the company says on its blog.
This, of course, as was expected, does not apply to everyone, as there are thousands of businesses with many systems that use Microsoft's outdated operating system.
Thus at the same time, Microsoft provided security updates to large companies and organizations that requested them, paying a bit extra, to keep their systems secure. However, the company emphasizes that this will happen only for a limited period, until they manage to upgrade all computers to Windows 8.1.
“There are also special cases where some enterprise customers have entered into customized support agreements directly with Microsoft. These companies will receive temporary security updates for Windows XP, to bridge the gap during their migration process to a more modern operating system such as Windows 8.1” the company added.
