Windows 7 continues to be the most widely used operating system worldwide, and according to new data provided by Net Applications, its market share is constantly growing, as more and more users install it in place of Windows XP.
Microsoft will officially end support for Windows XP on April 8, and so more and more users are starting to switch their systems to that platform rather than Windows 8.1.
Windows 7 appears to be the big winner of this Microsoft decision, as March 2014 data shows that it is now present on 48.77% of desktop systems worldwide, up from 47.31% the previous month.
Of course, it's no surprise that Windows 7 is the winner of the Windows XP retirement decision, because Windows 8 and 8.1 rather disappointed Microsoft customers.
However, Microsoft hopes to gain more users for Windows 8.1 and is presenting its operating system as the main destination for Windows XP system owners, emphasizing the security and performance of the new operating system.
