As you may already know, Office 365 for iOS devices is already available, but the new version of Office specifically targets iPads, offering options for their owners to work on the go.
Julia White, head of Microsoft's Office Division Product Management, introduced the new Office for iPad during an event in San Francisco, with new CEO Satya Nadella in attendance to discuss Redmond's efforts in this market.
White said everything has been built from scratch to make the app work flawlessly on iPad devices.
Office for iPad is available for free, but only if you want to open documents without editing them. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will be offered to iPad users at no cost, but without word-editing capabilities. If you want that feature, you'll need an Office 365 subscription.
