In one of his rare interviews, Apple 's chief engineer behind the creation of the iPhone , Greg Christie, revealed how the secret Project Purple evolved into the popular smartphone .
Christie told the Wall Street Journal that he referred to Jobs himself and they met twice a month, while in February 2005, the former boss of the company gave him two weeks to have a complete concept, otherwise he would assign the project elsewhere.
The team managed to implement a phone with a touchscreen and no physical keyboard, and all the music playback features that the iPod.
The first software tests were run on a plastic touchscreen connected to an outdated desktop Mac in an attempt to simulate a low-power mobile processor.
Christie also said that when Jobs decided to implement the project, a real marathon, which culminated in the six months between the iPhone's presentation and its release on the market, as changes were made until the last minute.
