Last December, Microsoft released a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 2 that caused a lot of issues with these tablets, including battery problems that limited their autonomy to just a few hours.
Even though the company released the problematic firmware update and promised to release a new one after the holidays, some users are revealing on the Microsoft forum that Redmond can easily replace your devices with a new one, without many questions asked.
Even though it's pretty clear that all the problems are caused by the firmware update and not the devices themselves, it seems Microsoft is agreeing to replace tablets running the new firmware!!!.
A user on the Microsoft forum reports:
“Hey guys.. so I contacted Surface support via chat… They agreed to send me a NEW Surface as a replacement for free. I made sure to make sure the replacement wasn’t just a rebuild.
to themand that I had already done everything to address it… as well as my concern about overheating.”
And right below, a second user confirms: “I also did the same and sent the Pro 2 in for exchange. Hopefully they will send me a new tablet and not repair mine.”
Microsoft hasn't provided any further information about the new firmware update, but it's likely to release a new one this month, as part of the monthly update that happens every Tuesday.
Redmond has promised to work through the Christmas holidays to develop the new firmware update, but there is no specific timeline as of yet. We are still waiting for more information from Microsoft, so we will update you when we receive new information.
