Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel appeared on NBC's Carson Daly show Friday in a pre-recorded interview about the New Year's Eve breach that exposed 4.6 million usernames and phone numbers. Spiegel was visibly disappointed by the hack — Daly described him as "furious" — but he didn't apologize to the service's users.

“Tech companies are generally vulnerable to hacking,” Spiegel said in the interview. “That’s why we have to work very, very, very hard with law enforcement, with security experts, with internal and external teams, to make sure that we pay the necessary attention to addressing these security issues.”
As Daly points out in the interview, Snapchat was warned by a security team about the potential risks just days before the breach occurred. In fact, it may have been months before. But Snapchat underestimated the threat.
"You know, I think we've done enough," Spiegel said . "I think in a business like this, a business that moves so fast, if you spend time looking back, you're trying to kill yourself."
