The official launch of the Huawei distribution center pilot at Piraeus Container Terminal was celebrated today, at an event held at the port of Piraeus. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis, Minister of Development and Competitiveness, Her Excellency Ms. Du Qiwen, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Greece, Captain Fu Cheng Qiu, CEO of Piraeus Container Terminal and Mr. Jeffrey Zhou, CEO of Huawei Technologies S.A.
The launch of the distribution center is the fulfillment of Huawei’s commitment to the Greek Government in May 2013, during the official visit of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to China. With a capacity to handle more than 4 million TEUs per year, Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) is a reliable and important partner in achieving Huawei’s strategic goals. The importance of this collaboration for both parties, as well as for Greece, was emphasized by all those present at the event.
The Minister of Development and Competitiveness, Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis, pointed out that the HUAWEI station strengthens the position of Piraeus, as well as our country, on the international transport map, as the company's high-tech products will be distributed to European markets through Greece. He also emphasized that this new investment is a vote of confidence in the country from a dynamic multinational company.
The Ambassador of China, Mr. Du Qiwen, described the pilot operation of the Huawei distribution center at the Piraeus Port as “an event of great importance for the businesses involved, the future of Piraeus and the country, which will contribute to progress and long-term development.”.
Mr. Jeffrey Zhou, CEO of Huawei Technologies Greece, said: “We launched this pilot program recently and the first container of Huawei products arrived in Greece in November, marking the start of this new collaboration with our partner SEP. We believe that our presence in the country will contribute to the Greek Economy. With the launch of this program, we will confirm the possibilities for future expansion.”
Captain Fu Chen Qiu, CEO of PCT, stated that: “We particularly appreciate the importance of the presence of the Greek Government Ministers here today at Piraeus Container Terminal, which signifies both personal and governmental support for the venture of such an important company as Huawei.”.
Huawei Technologies is a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) solutions, serving more than a third of the world's population. In 2012, the company's turnover amounted to approximately $35.4 billion, 66% of which came from sales outside China. Piraeus Container Terminal, a subsidiary of Chinese multinational shipping company Cosco, will manage the international distribution of Huawei products, spare parts and other telecommunications items arriving from China to Europe. More specifically, the products to be distributed include the entire Huawei product portfolio, such as fixed telephony networks, mobile phones, optical and broadband devices, telecommunications services solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises as well as consumer goods.
