The German Journalists' Federation recommends that journalists avoid using the search engines and email programs of Google and Yahoo! for their research and digital communication until further notice," the statement said.
The Federation cites as the reason the "scandalous" reports of surveillance conducted on the two websites by the British GCHQ and the American NSA.
German MP meets with Edward Snowden
German Green MP Hans-Christian Stroebele met with 30-year-old American fugitive and former NSA technical advisor Edward Snowden in Moscow on Thursday, his office announced.
According to the statement, more details will be made public on Friday.
However, it has been reported that Snowden, who leaked classified information about US electronic surveillance programs to the press, gave the German MP a letter addressed to the German government and the federal prosecutor.
